About
The Locos Cycling team originated as the Georgia Cyclesport team in the summer of 2001 as a group of six University of Georgia friends learning how to race bikes. As the summer progressed, “the team” became a bigger, more organized group making an impression in the amateur racing world. Eventually, a complaint was lobbied with the officials that groups should not be able to race together unless it was a sponsored team. It had never happened before that a group of racers could organize in such a haphazard manner.
Fortunately in the following year, Locos Deli & Pub stepped in as the title sponsor along with Horizon Micro-Environments and Athens Woodworking to provide this group an opportunity to become a true racing team. With the support of Locos and the rest, the team restructured itself and dominated the amateur racing field in the Southeast.
In 2003, the team finally made it to the elite level taking home prestigious results culminated by the Georgia State Championship title.
Today, the legacy continues with a contingency of 8 riders working together through passion, synergy, and talent. This year the team will spread its influence as a force not just in the Southeast, but bit by bit outside its normal territory.
