Tuscaloosa Weekend

March 29, 2010

LocosTy Magner took first place on Saturday night in the downtown twilight criterium. He was ushered to the line by a fast charging leadout train from Robert Giannini and Casey Magner. Once the boys dropped Ty off within 300 meters he was untouchable! Locos also stacked the top of the field with 3 in the top 8.

Sunday was a hilly and windy 70 mile road race. Robert Giannini got in the early break from 5 miles in with Frank Travieso and Sebastian. Eventually Ty bridged up to Robert in a small group after Frank had flown the coup solo. The two locos boys then worked over the small group with a one two punch at the finish. Rob attacked on the major hill of the course forcing a chase from behind. After the small group was glued back together Ty was able to smoke everyone in the sprint for hard won second place. Locos also took 4th 8th and 7th on the day.

Perry GA RR Video!

March 16, 2010

Locos Cycling Team raced in the Perry-Roubaix Road Race Sunday consisting of a mix of dirt, mud, and pavement. The field started out 83 strong, but only a handful of people survived, namely the entirety of the Locos team. Early in the race, Parker Smith attacked the peleton on the 1st of 6 laps. He was joined by slim Tim Henry and Sebastian from Germany very quickly.

The trio stayed away the whole day at about a minute and a half. This was in part due to the great teamwork being done in the peleton by Casey, Rob, Ty, and Whittaker. Other teams in the peleton tried their best to pull back the break, but the Locos boys kept everything under control. Towards the end of the 61 mile race, Ty almost bridged to the breakaway group containing Parker, but ran out of course to do so. In the end, Parker rounded out the podium with a 3rd place finish, and Ty Magner placed 5th. The race was a great team effort by the Locos Cycling Team! Be sure to check out the helmet cam footage to get a rider’s view of the race.

Also, check out the link below to get all the GPS information from the race.

Perry-Roubaix Road Race Photos

March 16, 2010

Locos had a great race on Sunday. Our young gun, Parker Smith, had a break out performance with a hard fought third place. Parker rode in a break for over 60 miles with slim Tim Henry and the crazy German. Here is a sampling of photos from the weekend thanks to Steve Magner.

Perry-Roubaix Crit

Perry Crit <- YouTube Link

Locos Cycling Team raced in Perry, GA today in the Georgia Cup Perry-Roubaix Criterium. The race started out fast with Whit attacking from the gun. Locos controlled most of the race by being a part of almost every move or by helping to bring them back.

The race ended in a field sprint, after Casey Magner pulled a break back with a lap to go. Ty Magner was on his way to victory when his chain snapped with 150 meters to go. His hot nasty speed was enough for him to coast to a 4th place finish. Parker Smith finished close behind Ty in 9th place. Rob “The Don” Giannini also had a great race, but was forced off the road on the last lap, putting him out of contention.

The race was recorded with our new helmet cam which we will be wearing in every race this season, so stay tuned to the Locos Cycling Blog after every race to see the action packed footage. We are still a little new to the camera so we are trying to learn the tricks for good footage.

Also stay tuned for a report on the Perry-Roubaix Road Race that is taking place tomorrow on a mix of dirt and paved roads. I predict a victory!
