Locos Team Camp: Part 1(Bowling)

February 22, 2010

The Locos Cycling Team held their first team camp of the year this weekend in Athens GA. They started the week with a rousing round of bowling at Kingpins. Lets hope the team is better at pedaling than they are at hitting pins over.   See all of the photos on our FaceBook Fan Page.

Snow in Athens!

February 16, 2010

Snow in Athens!!!

It very rarely snows in Athens, and when it does, it usually doesn’t stick.  This past Friday, however, it snowed like mad and actually accumulated!  As the snow first started falling, I instantly left school and went straight home to grab my mountain bike. I called the Magner brothers, Whit, and my roommate Smola, all of which had the same idea I had.

We set out down the road to some local mountain bike trails that we frequently ride.  Being from the south, none of us are to accustomed to snow or the effects that ice has on the roads.  Within 1 mile of riding to the trails, I hit an ice patch and hit the deck, sliding about 30 ft.  Practically every kit I own has a hole in it on the right side, however this kit was a lone wolf, fully enclosed proudly displaying the Locos logo. That was until this spill on ice claimed it.  We rode on, not discouraged from the fall, but rather excited to test out skills on the fresh powder.

We got lost multiple times on the trails, doing circles mainly because it is hard to see the trail on the in town loops, let alone with a few inches of snow.  There was crash after crash into piles of snow, followed by pee breaks and snowball fights.  I’ll have to add that my roommate Smola got ganged up on during each snowball fight, where he was demolished and subsequently cried the rest of the ride like a little girl.  Sorry Smola.

The next day the snow had not melted, and the roads were pretty bad.  The Don (Rob Giannini aka Coach Don) and I decided to do little urban assault on the campus of UGA.  We were jumping off ledges and riding down stairs like we were back in middle school, and it was awesome.  Afterwards we decided to do a road ride on out mountain bikes, the famous Pink Church Loop of Athens.  Only this time we would explore in the woods adjacent to the ride in the snow.

After two days of snow, I’m ready for it to be gone.  Time to get back to the training.
